7 Movies We Can't Believe Are 20 Years Old (!!!)

During the month of April, BlueBanana has been show casing the Music We Can't Believe Is During 20 Years Old this year! Now it's time to showcase the movies we can't believe are turning 20! Enjoy this trip down memory lane! And of course, we are always keen to hear what you think so let us know on Facebook, Twitter or the comments section below!

GOOD WILL HUNTING

Robin Williams won Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Good Will Hunting" - a film that blew 20 candles off the birthday cake when it turned 20 in March 2017. The screenplay was written by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon - who originally started penning the screen play while completing the final year of his Harvard University screen writing course. I hope he passed! ;-)

TITANIC

Look, as much as us here at the BlueBanana office didn't -love- this film... it holds a special place in our heart (no pun intended) in terms of movies in 1997. You either loved it or your hated it ... and some people loved it so much, there were stories of people seeing it at the cinema over 100+ times during it's run (!!). The Academy Awards loved it with it cleaning up a record number of awards including Best Picture.. and it allowed James Cameron to put away the $$ from this film into Avatar. We, personally, only watched it to see the guy fall and hit the propeller ;-)

BOOGIE NIGHTS

Based on a mock-u-mentary film that director Paul Thomas Anderson made in school 'The Dirk Diggler Story' became the mammoth film "Boogie Nights", which will blow (again, no pun intended!) out 20 candles on it's birthday cake when it turns 20 in October this year!

THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK

Far from a film to make any critics or movie-buffs "Best Of 1997" lists by any stretch of the imagination. The Lost World: Jurrasic Park is on the list as a long awaited sequel for the leader of BlueBanana, who was then aged 10. And 4 years between movies, for a 10 year old... seems like forever. This film makes the list more for nostalgic value more than anything else (and it sure beats Jurassic Park 3.. we'll cover that off in 2022 when it turns 20! ;-)

JACKIE BROWN

After Quintin Tarantinos "Pulp Fiction", many view "Jackie Brown" as a 'fall from grace'. Not us here at the BlueBanana office. We think this is one of Tarrantino's better..largely overlooked, pieces of cinema. If you haven't check it out yet, celebrate it's 20th birthday, and do so. Go on..no doubt you're sick of Pulp Fiction anyway (!!)

L.A. Confidential

What a line up! Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Kim Basinger and directed by Curtis Hanson. This Neo-Noir crime thriller was engaging and just looked amazing! It lost on all nine Academy Award nominations to Titanic..but, we think if it was released any other year, it would have cleaned up! And hey, Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 99% approval rating... not bad considering it's 20 years old this year!

THE FIFTH ELEMENT

And finally.. something to keep the Sci-Fi nerds happy. The Fifth Element. It came out in 1997 and stared Bruce "Die Hard" Willis... about the most un sci-fi dude you could cast. BUt hey, this was about the same time that George Lucas announced that the Irishman Ewan McGregor could be a Jedi... so.. anything was possible in 1997. This film was set in the 23rd century, where this film would still be viewed as awesome (and BlueBanana would be a world leader in radio!).

FILM WE WISH WEREN'T MADE IN 1997 (or at all!)

The following movies are so bad, we can't be bothered finding fancy graphics for them.. Spawn. Starship Troopers Batman & Robin Donnie Brasco (sorry, it just went too long) Anaconda Speed 2 Mortal Combat
